In its statement, Sudan warns that the global disarmament regime faces serious challenges, including geopolitical tensions, lack of trust, military modernization, non-compliance, treaty withdrawals, and stalled negotiations. It stresses that recent statements about possible nuclear tests by some states increase the risk of an arms race and global instability. Sudan emphasizes three key reasons for the Zone: regional security, by reducing nuclear arms race risks and building trust, strengthening the NPT, as the Zone is a vital part of the global non-proliferation framework, and humanitarian and strategic necessity, since nuclear weapons in the region would threaten human survival and stability. Sudan highlights priority issues as negative security assurances, a robust verification system under the IAEA, dispute resolution mechanisms, and the right to peaceful nuclear energy. It concludes by urging all regional states to engage in good faith.
