Statement by the Syrian Arab Republic at the Sixth Session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other WMD

The statement by Syria emphasizes that it is undergoing a new phase of transition in which its positions on many issues are taking shape in line with its new foreign policy. Syria remains committed to working towards the Zone and promoting regional peace and security. Syria expresses deep concern over Israel’s continued refusal to join the NPT and to place its nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards. Syria calls on all regional states to assume their responsibilities and pledges constructive engagement to achieve the Zone.
