Statement by Qatar at the Sixth Session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other WMD

Qatar stresses the responsibility of nuclear-weapon states to provide legally binding Negative Security Assurances (NSA). Such assurances are integral for advancing the establishment of the free zone treaty. The statement emphasizes the shared international responsibility for ensuring Israel’s accession to the NPT as a non-nuclear party and subjecting its facilities to the IAEA safeguards. Qatar supports strengthening cooperation with NWFZ and building on their experiences to advance the conference’s discussions.
