Statement by Iraq at the Fifth Session of Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and other WMD

Iraq has regarded Israel’s absence from the conference as a sign of a lack of political will and commitment. Iraq has called on Israel to not only participate in the conference but also to join the NPT as a non-nuclear weapon state. Furthermore, Iraq pointed out that the adherence to the non-proliferation and disarmament treaties, engaging in multilateral negotiations, and ensuring equal compliance by all relevant Middle Eastern parties as effective ways to achieve a ME WMDFZ.
