Statement by the United Kingdom at the 4th session of the conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and other WMD

The statement emphasizes the importance of inclusivity and consent in creating a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East. It welcomes the constructive spirit by the participating states in the conference and the efforts towards full participation which reflected positively in the 2022 NPT RevCon work. The statement advocates for states to sign the Additional Protocol. It calls on countries to ratify and accede to the CWC, BWC, and CTBT, as well as to join the Missile Technology Control Regime Guidelines. The statement also expresses concern over the advancement of Iran’s nuclear program, the unresolved outstanding issues related to the Syrian government’s chemical weapons activities, condemns the Hamas attack, and calls on Israel to respect international humanitarian law.
