Statement by Israel at the 77th session of the General Assembly

Statement by Israel at the 77th session of the General Assembly

The statement reflects Israel’s concern regarding the lack of compliance with non-proliferation and arms control norms, obligations and mechanisms in the Middle East. Israel views Iran’s nuclear and missile programs, the presence of chemical weapons in Syria and their utilization by the Syrian government, and Syria’s undeclared nuclear activities as grave threats to regional security. Israel deems the initiative of the UN Conference on Middle East Free Zone Free as ineffective and ill-motivated, as it deviates from the established practice of establishing NWFZs, which takes into consideration the security concerns of each and every state and reflecting arrangements freely arrived at by all states concerned. The statement also outlines Israels stance on conventional weapons, the TPNW, and cybersecurity.
