Statement by Syria at the 4th session of the conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and other WMD

Statement by Syria at the 4th session of the conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and other WMD

The statement claims Israel’s enormous WMD arsenal, with the support of the US and its allies, has increased serious threats to regional and international peace and security. The comments made by the Israeli minister to use nuclear weapons in Gaza are new evidence of Israel’s possession of weapons and confirm the dangers of Israel’s possession of such weapons. Syria calls upon the IAEA to assume its responsibilities and take all measures to uncover Israel’s nuclear program and subject it to IAEA safeguards. Syria also condemns the use of white phosphorous by the Israeli military in the Gaza Strip. The statement emphasises the need for a ME WMDFZ and highlights its support for the conference. It also emphasises the need to keep the conference separate from any other processes or arrangements in the region.
