Statement by Tunisia at the 4th session of the conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and other WMD

Tunisia aligns itself with the statement given by Libya on behalf of the Arab Group. The statement highlights the crucial role of international forums in reaching agreements of disarmament and expresses its commitment to active participation in any multilateral initiative regarding WMD. The statement mentions Israel's persistent refusal to join the NPT and its rejection of international initiatives to establish an ME WMDFZ. The statement stresses Tunisia's commitment to the peaceful use of nuclear energy and obtaining the necessary technology without obstacles. It also emphasises the pivotal role of the IAEA in ensuring the peaceful nature of nuclear programs. Tunisia calls on the IAEA to strengthen its fundamental role by facilitating the transfer of nuclear technology to developing countries.
