Statement by Syria at the 1st Session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other WMD

The statement highlights Syria's support for the zone and call on the international community to take effective and practical steps in achieving and practical steps on achieving an ME WMDFZ. It calls on Israel to join the NPT and subject all its facilities to IAEA safeguards. It affirms that the responsibility does not fall on Israel and the US alone but the countries that participated in developing Israel's military nuclear program and provides it with needed appliances. It also calls on the international community to put pressure on Israel to participant in the conference. It accuses the US of turning a blind eye to Israel's nuclear weapons. It expresses Syria's disappointment in the US lack of participation in the conference and its attempt to disrupt the conference by hosting a similar conference on the 14/11/2019 in Bucharest.
