Statement by China at the 1st Session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other WMD

China notes that pace and security in the Middle East is not only for regional best interests, but also of important to the stability of the whole world. China expresses its strong support for multilateralism and addressment of common threats through international cooperation, a spirit China has practiced in the Middle East by engaging multiple parties in peace talks. As such, China welcomes any initiatives, including a ME WMDFZ, that are conductive to a peaceful and stable Middle East. China supports the convening of the 1st Session of the Conference, hoping it will be constructive and leave space for other relevant countries to join the process later in the future, and hopes as well that the United States - as one of the NPT depository states - would attend and contribute to the establishment of the Zone.
