Statement by Iran at the Thematic Debate: Peaceful Use and International Cooperation at the 2nd Session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other WMD

The statement notes Iran's position that pursuing a ME WMDFZ does not stand in opposition to the peaceful use of biological, chemical and nuclear technologies and materials. Iran highlights that unilateral and illegal sanctions against civil cooperation projects with developing countries like Iran is a violation. A ME WMDFZ should thus include states parties explicit right for nuclear enrichment for peaceful purposes and the promotion of international cooperation. Finally the statement outlines four elements related to peaceful use that should be addressed in the treaty negotiations.
