Statement by Mauritania at the 2nd Session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other WMD

The statement emphasises Mauritania's support for an ME WMDFZ and therefore, it ratified all relevant international treaties in 2017. It highlighted that international peace and security will not be achieved in a world dominated by arms races. The statement emphasised Article VI of the NPT as the only article that prevents nuclear states from adopting a military doctrine. It calls on the international community and specifically, the sponsoring states of the 1995 Middle East resolution to take responsibility of implanting an ME WMDFZ.
