Statement by Yemen at the 3rd Session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other WMD

Statement by Yemen at the 3rd Session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other WMD

The statement emphasises the importance of the conference in negotiating a legally binding treaty to establish an ME WMDFZ. It expressed disappoint in the failure to reach a consensus at the 2020 NPT RevCon. The statement emphasised Yemen's support the zone by being signatory to the NPT, despite other states in the region refusal to join the treaty. The statement emphasises that the UNGA-mandated conference is not a substitute for the 1995 Middle East Resolution but a parallel and complementary process to it. It called for all states in the region to participate in the conference, especially Israel, who still refuses to join the NPT. It also stated that Yemen closely watches the negotiations of the JCPOA and condemns Iran's lack of seriousness in the process.
