Statement by GCC delivered by Saudi Arabia at the 3rd Session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of nuclear weapons and Other WMD

The statement highlights the importance of the conference to discuss an ME WMDFZ as mentioned in the 1995 resolution and restated in the 2010 NPT RevCon. The GGG views this conference as an area where views and perspectives can be discussed, however emphasis that decisions are made by consensus, which cannot take place when some states have refused to participate. The statement highlights the need for political will from all states in the region as well as the sponsoring states. The presence of secret nuclear activities and facilities that are not under the IAEA safeguards does not serve the purpose of establishing a zone.
