Israel draft proposal on “Establishment of a Nuclear Weapon Free Zone in the Region of the Middle East”

The draft proposal included a call for all Middle Eastern states and non-nuclear-weapon states adjacent to the region which are not members in a NWFZ to attend a conference to negotiate a NWFZ. After negotiations with Egypt, the Israeli draft was withdrawn and, for the first time, all of the countries in the region voted unanimously in the UN First Committee in favor of a revised Egyptian draft.
