    Organisational Meeting of the Working Committee of the Sixth Session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of NuclearWeapons and Other Weapons of Mass Destruction

    The working committee held three meetings during the intersessional period from January to May 2025. The Kingdom of Morocco, in its capacity as President of the sixth session of the Conference, chaired all the meetings of the working committee.

    At its 1st meeting, held in New York on 21 January 2025, the working committee discussed the organizational aspects of its work. It was decided that two substantive meetings would be held in March and May 2025, respectively, to address the three agreed-upon topics (negative security assurances; cooperation, consultation, and clarification and dispute settlement; and promotion of cooperation between nuclear-weapon-free zones and the Middle East Conference) and follow the format of the previous working committee meetings of presentations by invited experts, followed by interactive discussions among Members to the Conference and with the invited experts.

    Second Meeting of the Working Committee of the Sixth Session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear-Weapons and Other Weapons of Mass Destruction

    During the second meeting, which was held in New York from 19 to 21 March 2025, Members of the Conference discussed the two agreed-upon topics of (a) NSA and (b) cooperation, consultation, and clarification, and dispute settlement, with presentations by experts invited to the meeting. A summary of the discussions is annexed to the final report of the Sixth Session.

    Third Meeting of the Working Committee of the Sixth Session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other Weapons of Mass Destruction

    The third meeting was held between 12 and 14 May 2025 in Amman, Jordan. The working committee discussed the agreed-upon topics of promoting cooperation between nuclear-weapon-free zones and the Conference, with presentations by representatives of States Parties and Secretariats of NWFZs, as well as experts from specialised regional institutions invited to the meeting. The program also included a technical visit to Synchrotron-Light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME) in Salt, Jordan.
