First session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other WMD is held at the UN in New York

The Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other WMD held its first session. Israel and the US did not attend. Ambassador Sima Bahous of Jordan presided over the conference, which agreed on a political declaration, a decision on the presidency of the conference, and the dates of future sessions.
