League of Arab States summit expresses deep concern over the failure of the 2005 NPT RevCon
The LAS summit affirmed the ME WMDFZ is the best solution for regional proliferation. In a letter to the UN Secretary-General, the LAS transmitted the statement issued by the LAS Council summit, held in Sudan 28-29 March 2006, lamenting the failure of the 2005 NPT RevCon and emphasizing that “security and stability in the Middle East cannot be achieved unless Israel accedes to [the NPT] and abides by its provisions like the rest of the States in the region, and places all of its nuclear facilities under the comprehensive safeguards regime of the International Atomic Energy Agency.”
