IAEA Board of Governors resolution recognizes that a solution to the Iranian issue would contribute to realizing a ME WMDFZ
The IAEA Board of Governors recognized in its resolution on Iran that “a solution to the concerns around its nuclear programme would contribute to realizing the objective of a Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction, including their means of delivery.” The resolution was meant to address the “many failures and breaches of its obligations to comply with its NPT Safeguards Agreement and the absence of confidence that Iran’s nuclear programme is exclusively for peaceful purposes” and called on Iran to sign the IAEA Additional Protocol. This language was affirmed by UN Security Council resolution 1747 (2007).
