Row 61

During Syria’s membership of the UN Security Council, it submitted a draft resolution on behalf of the Arab Group calling for a WMDFZ in the Middle East. The draft resolution emphasized the role of the UN Security Council in adopting a global approach to countering the spread of WMD in all the countries of the Middle East, urged the implementation of all UNSC relevant resolutions, and called upon all the states of the Middle East to accede to the NPT, CTBT, BWC and CWC. It also requested the Secretary-General to submit a report on the implementation of the resolution. The draft resolution was not adopted.
