Israel outlines its approach to regional security, arms control, and disarmament at the Conference on Disarmament
In his speech, Eytan Bentsur, Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs spoke about the importance of peace in the region in paving the way for arms control and regional security and that such a peace “must enhance security for all concerned.” The speech also pointed to limitations of arms control regimes as Israel sees them, as well as the need for direct talks between the regional states, as was the case during ACRS. The speech stressed long-standing Israeli positions such as “peace first”, and that peace must “enhance security for all” and the importance of having regional dialogue, as well as mistrust in the efficacy of international arms control regimes.
