UN General Assembly resolution requests that the UN Secretary-General undertake a study on effective and verifiable measures to establish a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East

The resolution, submitted by Egypt, requested that the UN Secretary-General “undertake a study on effective and verifiable measures which would facilitate the establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East, taking into account the circumstances and characteristics of the Middle East, as well as the views and the suggestions of the parties of the region.”

Pursuant to the resolution, the Secretary-General submitted the study to the 45th session of the UN General Assembly.
